Ketel One is a brand of vodka owned by Diageo and made in Scheidam, the Netherlands by the Nolet distillery. The Nolet family are eleventh-generation distillers going back to Johannes Nolet, who in 1691 opened a genever distillery in the port city of Scheidam.
The Nolet distillery is famous for The Whale -- a giant windmill built in 1793 by Jacobus Nolet that still exists today.
The Ketel One brand was launched in 1983 by Carolus Nolet, and now includes a citrus flavor and an orange flavor. Ketel One is distilled from wheat in a pot still, and filtered through charcoal, then rests in tanks lined with tile. Ketel One is bottled at 80 proof.
