Fruit is a term for the seed-bearing parts of plants. From a culinary standpoint, fruits are the fleshy outer coverings of seeds, which are both sweet and edible.
Some fruits are common - oranges, blackberries, raspberries, apples, pineapples, pears, strawberries, peaches, and plums are all fruits. Some things are technically fruits while being considered a vegetable: tomatoes and eggplant fall into this group. Some take a bit of imagination: walnuts, pumpkins, coconuts, carrot seeds, wheat and rosehips are all fruits.
